Lalmonirhat: A Bangladeshi national was fatally shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Amjhol border in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat early Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Khademul Haque, 25, son of Amzad Hossain, from the Amjhol area.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Khademul, along with several alleged smugglers, had crossed approximately 150 yards into Indian territory when BSF personnel from the 78 Battalion’s Paglamari camp opened fire on them. Khademul sustained injuries to his face, chest, and head during the incident.
Locals and his associates managed to bring Khademul back to Bangladesh in a critical condition. He was subsequently taken to a clinic in Rangpur, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. The incident has been confirmed by Lt Col Mehedi Imam, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Lalmonirhat 15 Battalion.
Lt Col Mehedi Imam mentioned that the BSF initially denied the firing allegation. In response, a flag meeting at the company commander level has been convened to discuss the incident. This follows a previous incident on May 8, where two Bangladeshi nationals were killed and at least 12 others injured in firing by the BSF along the Pathariadwar border in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
