Pardis: Bangladesh women’s kabaddi team received the bronze medal after the prize distribution ceremony of the 6th edition of the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship was held at the Iranian town of Pardis today (Saturday). Apart from the medal, the Bangladesh kabaddi team also received a trophy of the championship. Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation general secretary SM Newaz Shohag was present on the occasion.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, India emerged as unbeaten champions in the tournament, defeating host Iran by 33-25 points in the final held today. Earlier, on Friday, Bangladesh secured the bronze medal by reaching the semifinals of the championship, beating Thailand by 42-27 points in their last group match. However, they were eliminated from the final race after a 41-18 point defeat to host Iran in the second semifinal match held on the same day.
In the group phase matches, Bangladesh made a losing start when they were beaten by defending champions India by 64-23 points in their opening Pool A encounter. They bounced back to register a massive 52-12 points victory over Malaysia in the second match. The championship will serve as a platform ahead of the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup, set to take place in Bihar later this year, providing a preparatory ground for the participating teams to fine-tune their skills.
