Mirpur: The Bangladesh Under-23 team demonstrated a strong comeback in their third encounter of the Game Development (GD) Trophy, decisively defeating the Bangladesh Under-19 squad by nine wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the U23 team, after a disappointing start to the series with a loss against the U19s and a shared point in a rain-affected game against the U17s, put on an impressive all-round performance. They achieved the target of 190 set by the U19s in just 31.3 overs, losing only a single wicket in the process.

Choosing to bat first, the Bangladesh U19 team was bowled out for 189 in 49.5 overs. Opener SK Jarif Siam led the way with a noteworthy 56 off 71 balls, decorated with five boundaries and a six. Contributions also came from Ahsan Al Mumin and Mehrab Hasan Sijan, who added 35 and 33 runs, respectively.

The U23 bowling attack was spearheaded by Swadhin Islam, who claimed three wickets, while Mohiuddin Tarek provided substantial support by taking two wickets.

In response, the U23 openers Azizul Hakim Tamim and Adil set a solid foundation with a formidable 130-run opening partnership. Adil was eventually dismissed for a well-crafted 63 off 74 balls. Azizul Hakim continued to anchor the chase, finishing unbeaten on 74 off 79 deliveries, including five fours and two sixes.

Post-Adil's dismissal, Kalam Siddiki Aleen joined Hakim at the crease, contributing a quickfire 39 not out off 40 balls, featuring four boundaries and a six. Their unbroken 51-run stand for the second wicket ensured a comfortable victory for the U23 team.
