Dhaka: Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki announced today that Bangladesh’s longstanding and friendly relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will be further strengthened in the coming years. “The existing relations among the people of this region are based on history, heritage, culture, and religious faiths are deep-rooted and long-lasting,” Farooki stated at a function held at the Thai Embassy where he served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Royal Thai Embassy organized the event to mark ASEAN Day. During his address, Farooki highlighted the numerous opportunities for expanding tourism, investment, trade, and employment among the countries involved. He emphasized the importance of properly utilizing these opportunities to benefit the respective nations.
The function also featured speeches from other dignitaries, including the High Commissioner of Brunei, Haji Haris Bin Haji Othman, and the Malaysian High Commissioner, Mohd Shuhada Othman. They echoed similar sentiments on the potential for enhanced cooperation and collaboration in various sectors.
ASEAN was established on August 8, 1967, with the aim of promoting economic progress, social advancement, cultural development, and regional peace and stability among Southeast Asian countries.
