Bangladesh Seeks Russia’s Support for UNGA Presidency Bid

Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Sunday highlighted the strong and evolving relationship between Bangladesh and Russia, emphasizing collaboration in sectors like energy, trade, science and technology, education, and skilled migration. The State Minister is seeking Russia’s backing for Bangladesh’s candidacy for the Presidency of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly for the 2026-2027 term.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the discussion took place during a courtesy call by the Russian Federation’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Khozin reiterated Russia’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and praised Bangladesh for its consistent engagement with Russia.



The Ambassador congratulated the State Minister on her new role, expressing optimism for the continued strengthening of ties between Bangladesh and Russia. Both parties acknowledged the positive trajectory of their bilateral relations and pledged to further develop their long-standing and mutually beneficial partnership.
