Ghoraghat: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain has expressed confidence that Bangladesh remains a secure place for all religious and ethnic groups to practice their faiths freely, while also upholding Bangalee culture and religious harmony. Speaking at an event in Ghoraghat, Dr Zahid emphasized the country’s commitment to religious freedom and cooperation among different faiths.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Zahid highlighted that Muslims in Bangladesh have consistently supported people of other faiths in celebrating their festivals. He reiterated the belief that “religion belongs to individuals, festivals belong to all,” underscoring the message of peace that this saying conveys.
Dr Zahid made these remarks during the 16 Prahar Mahanaam Yoganusthan and Sri Sri Radha Gobinda Leela Kirtan program held in the district. He also reflected on the contributions of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in establishing multi-party democracy and the dedication of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to the welfare of the people. Dr Zahid assured that BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is continuing this legacy through his 31-point programme aimed at reflecting the aspirations of the people.
The event was attended by Ghoraghat Upazila BNP President S M Shamim Hossain Chowdhury and other local leaders, as well as Hindu community leaders Kalidas Sarker and Manoranjan Mohanta. The week-long religious event, organised by the Sanatan Religious Community, commenced on Sunday at Rishighat village in the Dinajpur district.
