The weather department has predicted light to moderate showers in large parts of the country in the next 24 hours.

“Light to moderate rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and the weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country,” the department said in its bulletin on Tuesday.

Day and night temperatures may rise by 1-3 degrees over the country, it added.

Besides, cyclone Sitrang over the east-central Bay and the adjoining west-central Bay and the north Bay moved northeastwards and weakened rapidly into a depression over Dhaka-Cumilla-Brahmanbaria and adjoining areas.

It now lies over Netrokona and the adjoining area as a well-marked low. It is likely to move north/northeast further and become unimportant within six hours, as per the bulletin.

The weather office recorded the highest 324 mm of rainfall in Barishal division till 6am on Tuesday.

The mercury reached 30.4 degrees Celsius – the highest – in Teknaf of Chattogram division, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 19 degrees in Rajarhat of Rangpur division.
