Bangladesh Govt Prioritizes Democratic Strengthening and Economic Reforms: CA

Kuala lumpur: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus announced today that the interim government of Bangladesh is dedicated to strengthening democracy and restoring power to the people. ‘We are committed to strengthening democracy and giving power back to its rightful owner – the people,’ he declared during a speech at a special convocation ceremony held at University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ceremony was organized on the university campus to award an honorary doctorate to Prof Yunus for his contributions to promoting social business. During his address, Prof Yunus highlighted the significance of the youth-led uprising in July and August 2024, which he said has redefined national identity and future aspirations.



Prof Yunus emphasized the interim government’s focus on building a new Bangladesh characterized by equitable governance and an inclusive economy. He stated, ‘Our government is focused on ensuring peace and stability.’ He further outlined the government’s priorities, stating, ‘Reforms are our top priority. We have a clear goal, a detailed plan, and strong determination to move forward. To build a stronger and resilient Bangladesh, we need big changes in our economy.’



The Chief Adviser explained that these reforms involve supporting entrepreneurs, increasing investments in education and technology, and collaborating with international and regional partners. He also mentioned the government’s efforts to organize a free, fair, and transparent election by February 2026, aiming to ensure that power is transferred to the true representatives of the people.



The event was attended by notable figures including Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, Chancellor of University Kebangsaan Malaysia; Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus, Tuanku Aishah Rohani Binti Almarhum Tengku Besar Mahmud; Tunku Ali Redhauddin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz, Pro-Chancellor of UKM; Tan Sri Datuk Rafiah Salim, Pro-Chancellor of UKM; and Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, Minister of Higher Education Malaysia.
