Tokyo: The National Identity Card (NID) service has officially been launched at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo. Senior Secretary of the Election Commission, Akhtar Ahmed, inaugurated the programme in the embassy’s hall room.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akhtar Ahmed highlighted during his speech that many Bangladeshis living in Japan have been facing challenges due to the lack of national identity cards. This has hindered their access to various services in Bangladesh. The introduction of the NID programme at the embassy aims to address this issue, enabling expatriates to receive NID-related services directly in Japan. Ahmed also mentioned plans to facilitate voting for expatriates through postal ballots in the upcoming election.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Japan, Md. Daud Ali, expressed that the launch of the NID service fulfills a significant demand from Bangladeshi expatriates in Japan. The event was attended by officials from the Election Commission, members of the Bangladeshi community in Japan, and embassy staff.
