Dhaka: Bangladesh Captain Liton Das dedicated their maiden T20 series victory against Pakistan to the victims of the tragic fighter jet crash in Capital's Uttara. Liton's side secured a thrilling 8-run victory over Pakistan in the second T20 International to clinch the three-match series with one game remaining.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh team showed resilience despite being bowled out for 133 in 20 overs. Jaker Ali Anik was the standout performer with a fighting 55 off 48 balls, while Mahedi Hasan contributed 33 runs. Together, they added a crucial 53-run partnership for the fifth wicket after Bangladesh was down to 28-4. The bowlers then displayed discipline, dismissing Pakistan for 125 in 19.2 overs.
Liton Das expressed his sentiments after the win, stating, "This series win is fully dedicated to the victims and to their families. We know that we can't fill up the void of the lives that were lost, but at least from our side, this series is dedicated to them."
Reflecting on the match, Liton acknowledged the team's performance, highlighting the batting efforts of Mahedi and Jaker. Despite a shaky start, the team managed to post a defendable total. "When we see the wicket, it looks like 130-140, wicket. So we all know anything above 130 we can defend," Liton remarked.
Pakistan, facing a dire situation at 30-6, nearly turned the game around thanks to Faheem Ashraf's valiant 51 off 32 balls. The match extended to the last over before Bangladesh secured the victory. Liton noted the challenges faced by both teams, stating, "They batted really well. Bowlers also bowled very well in those 10 to 12 overs. When the ball was new, it was more difficult to bat on this pitch."
The Bangladesh captain also commented on the team's fielding mistakes, which allowed Pakistan to extend the game. "When the ball was a little bit wet, this came easily to the bat. But after 12 overs, we didn't execute our plan and couple of mistakes in the field. So, that costs a little bit. That's why the game was deeper as well," he explained.
