Dhaka: Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman affirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to communal harmony, emphasizing equal rights for all citizens, during an address at the Janmashtami rally at Dhakeshwari Temple.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, General Waker highlighted the nation’s longstanding tradition of peaceful coexistence among various religious and ethnic communities. He urged the continuation of this harmony, asserting that the country belongs to everyone, regardless of religion, caste, or creed. The Army Chief’s remarks were made as he served as the chief guest at the rally organized by Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Mahanagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee, and Dhakeshwari Temple.
General Waker extended his greetings for the occasion and expressed gratitude to the organizing committees for including him in the celebrations. He acknowledged the armed forces’ commitment to supporting the spirit of unity across Bangladesh, ensuring everyone could celebrate their religious festivals joyously. He also called on devotees to spread the teachings of Lord Krishna, promoting peace and unity.
The rally, which marked a revival of a historical tradition, featured speeches from other military leaders. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan both emphasized mutual tolerance and unity, inspired by Lord Krishna’s teachings.
The event concluded with a vibrant procession through key city landmarks, symbolizing Bangladesh’s dedication to communal harmony and unity.
