Bangladesh Calls on ICRC to Enhance Rohingya Repatriation Efforts

Cox's Bazar:Bangladesh: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir has called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to intensify its advocacy for the swift repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingya refugees to Myanmar. This appeal was made during a meeting with Nicolas Fleury, Head of the ICRC Delegation in Bangladesh, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Kobir expressed gratitude for the ICRC's humanitarian support to both the Rohingya refugees and local communities in Cox's Bazar. He also acknowledged the organization's ongoing role in promoting International Humanitarian Law (IHL), disaster response, capacity-building, and emergency support.

Kobir reiterated Bangladesh's dedication to the Geneva Conventions and IHL, emphasizing the significance of the National IHL Committee. He highlighted Bangladesh's contribution to global IHL advocacy, notably as Co-chair of the 'IHL and Peace' workstream under the Global IHL Initiative.

Furthermore, Kobir mentioned that the government is contemplating participation at a suitable level in the 'High-Level Conference on Humanity in War' scheduled for December 2026 in Jordan.

Nicolas Fleury praised Bangladesh for its sustained cooperation and confirmed the ICRC's readiness to enhance IHL capacity-building and humanitarian efforts in the country. He also committed to strengthening the longstanding partnership between Bangladesh and the ICRC.
