Bangladesh Army and Kushtia District Claim Titles in National Water Polo Competition

Dhaka: Bangladesh Army and Kushtia district emerged champions in the services team category and club and District Sports Association (DSA) category respectively in the Water polo competition held at the national swimming complex in the city’s Mirpur today. Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) organized the two-day competition to celebrate the Festival of Youth 2025.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in the services team category final match, Bangladesh Army defeated Bangladesh Navy, with Mohammad Rashedul of the Army named the best player of the final. In the club and DSA category final, Kushtia district triumphed over Amla Swimming Club of Kushtia, with Faridul Islam of the winning team named the best player of the match.



Meanwhile, Bangladesh Navy secured the top position in the diving competition, winning two gold and three silver medals, while Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan finished behind Navy with one gold medal. Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad attended the final as the chief guest and distributed the prizes.



Mizanur Rahman (Mia Bhai), vice president of BSF and chairman of the Mia Bhai Foundation, the sponsoring organization, was present as a special guest. Bangladesh Olympic Association director general Brigadier General Shamsul Alam Khan and BSF general secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shaheen also attended the prize distribution ceremony.



BSF general secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shaheen informed the press that, as there is currently no national water polo team, there are plans to select players from the tournament to form a national water polo team for the first time. The BSF intends to send the water polo team to play in tournaments abroad by arranging training under foreign coaches.



He also mentioned that sponsors are being sought to start a year-round swimming camp, and the federation has decided to start a junior-level camp. Additionally, a talent hunt program will be launched soon, the federation general secretary informed.
