Bangladesh and UK Sign MoU to Boost Aviation Sector Cooperation

Dhaka: Bangladesh and the United Kingdom (UK) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), reinforcing their shared commitment to boosting investment and sustainable infrastructure development in the aviation sector.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the MoU was signed by Ashik Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of the PPP Authority of Bangladesh, and Sarah Cooke, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh. The signing was witnessed by UK Trade Envoy, Baroness Rosie Winterton, who is visiting Dhaka to reinforce and expand the longstanding UK-Bangladesh trade and economic partnership. Also present were State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Civil Aviation and Tourism adviser Humayun Kobir.



The agreement signifies a step forward in bilateral collaboration, focusing on investment facilitation, knowledge exchange, capacity building, and increased private sector participation in the aviation sector, as stated in a press release by the British High Commission.



Millat expressed confidence that the PPP Authority would align with national objectives and assured support for Bangladesh-UK engagement that benefits both nations. Kobir emphasized Bangladesh’s openness to global business and commitment to strengthening ties with the UK.



The adviser highlighted the intention to harness the creative potential of young people and the dynamism of British diaspora businesses, aiming to deepen business engagement with the UK.



Baroness Winterton underscored that the MoU reflects a shared ambition to develop an aviation sector that supports trade, tourism, and economic growth. She noted that the agreement provides a platform for investment and job creation beneficial to both countries.



British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke remarked that the MoU reaffirms the UK as a reliable, long-term economic partner, committed to mutually beneficial trade and economic growth. Ashik Chowdhury termed the MoU a significant advancement, acknowledging the support from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.



Chowdhury noted the UK as one of Bangladesh’s largest investors, remarking on the potential for new UK investments. He highlighted the opportunity this presents for Bangladesh’s young workforce and its global mobility, expressing excitement for future prospects.
