Dhaka: Bangladesh and Turkey have announced their collaboration to co-host a global conference on women in Islam early next year. This significant event aims to unite prominent Muslim scholars and researchers while highlighting nations that exemplify best practices in advancing women’s rights.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the agreement was formalized during a meeting between Bangladesh’s Women and Children Affairs Adviser, Sharmeen Murshid, and Turkish Minister for Social Services, Mahinur Ozdemir G¶kta. The discussions, which took place recently, also led to a consensus on enhancing cultural and technological exchanges between the two countries. Both sides are committed to raising the standards of cooperation in the care economy and social services sector.
Turkey has pledged to offer training and capacity-building programs designed to develop professional women caregivers for local, Turkish, and international markets. Sharmeen Murshid noted the importance of these initiatives, considering her dual role in social welfare.
Furthermore, both Bangladesh and Turkey, as signatories of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), have expressed their determination to share experiences, challenges, and achievements related to the status of women in Muslim societies.
