Doha: About 800 armed forces personnel from Bangladesh will be initially sent to Qatar for a three-year term under an agreement between the two nations. The agreement, concerning the deployment of personnel on deputation from the Bangladesh Armed Forces to the Qatar Armed Forces, marks a significant development in military cooperation between Bangladesh and Qatar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the agreement was signed by Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hassan, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh, and Lieutenant General (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai, Chief of Staff of Qatar Armed Forces, during a ceremony held in Doha. The announcement was made in a press release from the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
The agreement is a result of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus's diplomatic efforts during his recent visit to Qatar for the "Arthana" conference. This collaboration will allow members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces to serve in the Qatar Armed Forces on deputation.
Initially, 800 personnel will be deployed, but there is potential for this number to increase. The personnel will serve for three years initially, with the possibility of extending their tenure up to six years based on performance.
The press release highlighted that this agreement opens new opportunities for deploying skilled personnel in the Qatar Armed Forces and aims to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Additionally, the deployment will provide financial benefits to the Bangladeshi personnel and contribute to foreign currency earnings for the Government of Bangladesh.
The signing ceremony was attended by Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Hazrat Ali Khan, delegation members, and other officials from the embassy.
