Dhaka: Bangladesh and Mexico are focused on strengthening their bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation as they approach the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties. This intent was highlighted during a meeting between Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey and Mexican Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Mara Teresa Mercado P©rez at the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Undersecretary Mara Teresa congratulated Ambassador Mushfique on his recent credential presentation and expressed Mexico’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Bangladesh. Both officials recognized the upcoming 50-year milestone in 2025 as an excellent opportunity to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Ambassador Ansarey suggested organizing joint initiatives and celebrations to commemorate the growing friendship between the two nations. Discussions also covered the potential for holding the third Foreign Office Consultations in Mexico later this year, which aims to deepen engagement across various sectors and advance key diplomatic and economic collaborations.
Ambassador Mushfiqul emphasized the importance of finalizing pending Memorandums of Understanding in areas such as agriculture, defense, visa waivers, football, and the avoidance of double taxation. He also highlighted the need for increasing economic and diplomatic exchanges and the urgency of opening a Mexican Embassy in Dhaka to facilitate further cooperation.
Undersecretary Mara Teresa assured Ambassador Mushfiqul of Mexico’s full cooperation in advancing these initiatives and reiterated the commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. The meeting concluded positively, with both sides expressing optimism about the future of Bangladesh-Mexico relations and their shared vision for deeper engagement in the coming years.
