Dhaka:Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat has called for enhanced collaboration between Bangladesh and the Maldives, focusing on sustainable fisheries, tourism development, and new bilateral engagement opportunities. The minister made this appeal during The Great Tuna Gala in Dhaka, an event organized by the Maldives High Commission to promote the country's sustainable tuna fisheries, culinary heritage, and tourism potential.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Maldives High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shiuneen Rasheed emphasized the Maldives' deep connection with the ocean and the pivotal role fisheries play in its economy, communities, and culture. She highlighted the Maldives' pole-and-line tuna fishery and its significance in sustainable fishing practices, noting the potential for expanding Maldivian fisheries products in the Bangladesh market.
The event underscored the growing connectivity between the two nations and the prospects for increased tourism, trade, and business collaboration. Guests were introduced to various Maldivian fisheries products, with a focus on the traditional pole-and-line fishing method, a practice reflecting the Maldives' commitment to responsible marine resource use.
Renowned Maldivian Chef Maha Naseer conducted a live culinary demonstration, showcasing Maldivian cuisine's versatility and the role of tuna and other fisheries products. The event, attended by approximately 250 guests, including government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and media representatives, provided an opportunity to experience authentic Maldivian flavors and learn about the intertwined nature of the country's fisheries, culinary traditions, and lifestyle.
