The International Day of UN Peacekeepers was established in 2002 by the UN General Assembly to honor those serving in peacekeeping roles and to remember those who have sacrificed their lives in the name of peace. According to the UN peacekeeping office, this year’s theme for the Day is “The Future of Peacekeeping.”
As per the UN information, Bangladesh ranks as the 3rd largest contributor of military and police personnel to United Nations Peacekeeping. Over 5,600 personnel, including 447 women, are currently deployed in regions such as Abyei, the Central African Republic, Cyprus, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lebanon, and South Sudan.
