Dhaka: Bangladesh and the European Union (EU) are poised to sign the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) next week, marking a significant step toward institutionalizing their bilateral cooperation. EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller recently met with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman to discuss various topics of mutual interest.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the discussions included the Foreign Minister's imminent visit to Brussels, where he will lead a delegation to initial the PCA. This agreement reflects the long-standing and mutually beneficial partnership between Bangladesh and the EU, which has grown into a comprehensive and multifaceted engagement over the years.
Both parties explored areas of shared interest, such as reform initiatives, migration management, skills development, rule of law, and good governance. The EU anticipates the formal initialling of the PCA during the Foreign Minister's visit to Brussels, scheduled for April 20, which will further enhance cooperation in these areas.
Recently, the Heads of Mission from Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the EU met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. A senior official noted that the EU has already expressed its willingness to deepen relations with the new Bangladeshi government.
The EU reiterated its support for priority reforms, economic modernization, and managed migration, emphasizing the importance of a level playing field to foster investment. These shared values form the foundation of the EU's partnerships globally.
