Khulna: The Bangla Discipline of Khulna University (KU) has retained the Shahid Mir Mugdho Inter-Discipline Football Championship, defeating the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Discipline with a decisive 4-0 victory in the final match held on Monday afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the final match commenced at 3.30 pm on the KU ground, situated near the under-construction 4th academic building. Key players Abir and Asad each scored two goals, leading the Bangla Discipline to a commanding win. Abir’s outstanding performance earned him the Man of the Match award, while CSE’s Pranto Mukherjee was recognized as the Player of the Tournament. Abir and Asad shared the accolade of Top Scorer, CSE’s Aman Ullah was named Best Goalkeeper, and Bangla’s Ashiq was honored as the Promising Player.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, serving as the chief guest, distributed prizes during the ceremony. He emphasized the significance of such co-curricular activities in maintaining a vibrant
university atmosphere and praised the tournament for honoring the legacy of Shahid Mir Mugdho. Prof. Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid Khan, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, also underscored the role of sports in holistic student development and highlighted the tournament’s potential to inspire students in remembering Shahid Mir Mugdho’s contributions.
The event was presided over by Acting Registrar and Director of the Physical Education Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahbubur Rahman, with Director of Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat present as a special guest. Tournament Convenor Prof. Dr. Md. Nabiul Islam Khan welcomed the attendees, and Deputy Director Md. Moinul Hossain conducted the ceremony.
The final and subsequent prize-giving ceremony witnessed participation from faculty members, officials, staff, and a large contingent of students, marking a significant occasion in the university’s calendar.
