Dhaka: Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Gani announced that the threatening phone calls received by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bagerhat came from auto-generated numbers, making it challenging to trace the callers.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Nasimul Gani assured the public that the government is aware of the situation and is maintaining vigilance. He emphasized that there is no additional concern regarding the Rohingya issue in the context of the upcoming election. These comments were made in response to journalists’ questions following meetings of the Advisory Committee on Government Purchase and the Advisory Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed at the Secretariat’s Cabinet Division conference room.

Addressing inquiries about the origins of the threats to the Bagerhat DC and SP from various locations, the home secretary stated that the calls are from auto-generated numbers, which are difficult to track. He reiterated the government’s alertness to the situation.

Regarding the purchase of vehicles for the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Nasimul Gani confirmed that the government is committed to keeping public funds within the public sector. He highlighted Pragati Industries as Bangladesh’s first state-owned automobile manufacturer and the intended source for vehicle procurement. He clarified that the vehicle procurement approval is not linked to the upcoming election, as the process will be gradual, with components being imported from Japan by Pragati Industries.

Addressing rumors about Rohingya camps being sealed ahead of the election, Nasimul Gani refuted the claims, stating that movement will not be restricted. He explained that people will be able to move freely to earn their livelihood, with entry to camps being regulated through card scanning. He affirmed that there is no heightened concern regarding the Rohingya issue during the election period.
