Awami League Leader and Eight Others Arrested After Police Attack in Chuadanga

Chuadanga:Police arrested nine individuals, including an Awami League leader, following an incident where the leader was forcibly taken from police custody in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga.

According to United News of Bangladesh, among those arrested are Abu Siddik, the president of Chandipur Ward Awami League and a Union Parishad member, along with Fulon Halder, Md Alam, Sonali Halder, Kona Rani, Nasima Akter, Farhad Ali, Firoz Hossain, and Lakshman Halder from Chandipur Haldarpara, and Ashraf Ali from Darshana South Chandrapur.

Abu Siddik had initially been detained by police on Wednesday night. However, he was snatched away by family members and locals who allegedly attacked the officers, resulting in injuries to two police personnel. The injured officers were identified as Sub-Inspector Molla Ariful Islam and Constable Aminul Islam.

Following the attack, police conducted an overnight operation and managed to re-arrest Abu Siddik at the Chuadanga bus stand the next morning. The operation also led to the apprehension of eight others involved.

In a related incident, Abdus Samad, a ward president of the BNP, reported being assaulted and threatened by three individuals in the Chandipur area on Thursday morning. He lodged a formal complaint with Darshana Police Station regarding the assault, which some locals believe might be connected to the previous night's events.

Darshana Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Mukhlesur Rahman stated that the complaint filed by Abdus Samad is under investigation and that appropriate legal measures will be taken.
