DHAKA- The results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations 2017 under 10 education boards were published today with an average pass rate of 80.35 percent.
A total of 14,31,722 examinees out of 17,81,962 passed the SSC and equivalent examinations this year, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told a press briefing at his ministry.
Secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division Md Sohrab Hossain, officials and chairmen of different education boards, among others, were present on the occasion.
Nahid said last year, a total of 14,52,605 students, out of 16,45,201, passed the examinations with 88.29 percent pass rate.
He said, "For the first time, we have introduced a new system to evaluate answer papers in an accurate manner. The new system has been developed after a three-year research."
The minister said, "We have given training and guidelines to the teachers on the new answer paper evaluation system so that the examinees get proper evaluation. This system is more acceptable compared to traditional method."
He said a total of 1, 04,761 students got the highest Grade Point Average (GPA-5) in the SSC and equivalent examinations under 10 education boards across the country this year. The number of such students was 1,09,761 last year.
Among the GPA-5 holders this year, 53,488 are male while 51,273 female Students, Nahid added.
According to the statistics of the SSC results, a total of 97,964 students achieved GPA-5 under eight general education boards, while 2,610 students obtained the grade under madrasa education board and 4,187 under technical education board.
The female students have marked slight edge again over their male counterparts in terms of pass rate in this year's SSC and equivalent examinations.
A total of 7,04,034 female students passed the examinations with 80.78 percent success rate while the number of successful male students is 7,27,688 with 79.93 percent pass rate.
The pass rate of female students was 88.39 percent last year while pass rate of male students was 88.20.
Rajshahi Education Board has secured the top position among 10 education boards with 90.70 percent pass rate in the SSC and equivalent examinations while Comilla education board is at the bottom with 59.03 percent pass rate.
The pass rate of Dhaka board is 86.39 per cent, while it is 77.24 per cent in Barisal board, 80.04 per cent in Jessore board, 83.98 per cent in Dinajpur board, 83.99 per cent in Chittagong board, 80.26 per cent in Sylhet board, 76.20 per cent in madrasa board and 78.69 per cent in technical education board.
A total of 412 students of eight foreign centres have come out successful in the SSC examinations this year with 94.28 per cent pass rate.
A total of 437 students appeared in the SSC examinations in foreign centres. Of the successful students, 112 have achieved GPA-5.
