Munshiganj: In a significant step to reduce traffic congestion in the Munshiganj Municipality area, local authorities have announced a new digital management system for auto-rickshaws. The initiative includes issuing digital number plates with QR codes and introducing designated color schemes for auto-rickshaw bodies.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the initiative was formally inaugurated by the Munshiganj Municipality Chief Executive Officer Md Touhidul Islam, who launched the auto-rickshaw painting activity in line with the new regulations. The event, which took place on Monday afternoon, was attended by Municipal Executive Officer Abdur Rob Sikder, Chief Accounting Officer Kamrul Alam, Urban Planner Sushmita Rahman, and President of the Auto-rickshaw Mixer Owners Association Masud Rana.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO Md Touhidul Islam stated that the new measures are intended to streamline auto-rickshaw management and ease traffic pressure in the town. Under the initiative, auto-rickshaws will be painted in designated colors for easy identification, and all battery-operated auto-rickshaws will receive digital number plates with QR codes. Owners and drivers will also be provided with smart cards and permits.
Approximately 2,900 battery-operated auto-rickshaws within the municipality will be brought under this licensing system. The introduction of digital number plates and QR-based tracking is expected to improve traffic flow and enhance the overall efficiency of the local transport system.
