Australian Speaker to Visit Bangladesh to Boost Parliamentary and Energy Ties

Dhaka: An Australian parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, Milton Dick, is set to visit Bangladesh this week. The visit aims to enhance parliamentary engagement, foster energy cooperation, and expand bilateral ties between the two nations.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement was made following a meeting between Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Ryle, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed Islam, MP, at the foreign ministry. The meeting highlighted the key areas of focus during the upcoming visit, including discussions with Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, MP, and State Minister Shama Obaed Islam.



The delegation’s itinerary includes a guided tour of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and the July Revolution Memorial Museum, as well as observing parliamentary proceedings. These activities are expected to provide insight into Bangladesh’s legislative processes and historical context.



During the meeting, the Australian High Commissioner addressed the potential for LNG supply from Australia to Bangladesh, aiming to support the country’s growing energy needs. Additionally, discussions covered the prospects for enhanced cooperation in agriculture and climate change, alongside expanding trade and investment between the two countries.



The State Minister emphasized the significance of collaboration in skill development for Bangladesh’s workforce and women’s empowerment initiatives. She expressed optimism that the visit would invigorate Bangladesh-Australia relations, especially following the establishment of the new government.
