Dhaka: A group of students who were injured during the anti-discrimination students-people movement today strongly condemned and protested the attack on them at a programme at the Central Shaheed Minar. The incident took place when the injured students-people participated in the 'Nagorik Samabesh' organized by Jatiya Biplobi Parishad at the Central Shaheed Minar yesterday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the attack occurred during a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar when Md. Abir Ahmed Sharif, an injured participant in the anti-discrimination movement, expressed disapproval of remarks made by Md Faroque Hasan, leader of Jatiyas Gano Adhikar Parishad, against the interim government. The students who were attacked are currently receiving treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital.
Speaking at a press conference held at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital, Md. Abir Ahmed Sharif stated that the injured students attended the rally upon invitation from Jatiya Biplobi Parishad. Md. Saiful Islam, Abdur Rahman, and Korban Sheikh Hillul, among others, were present at the press conference.
Md. Abir Ahmed emphasized that the students-people are not affiliated with any political party and clarified that their movement was against the dictatorial Sheikh Hasina government for the benefit of the country. He warned that any attempt to misguide the movement would be resisted.
He also expressed hope that the interim government will prioritize the welfare of the country and its people. Furthermore, he sought assistance and cooperation for the injured students who are currently undergoing treatment in different hospitals across the country.
