Dhaka: The Executive Committee of the Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) has taken a firm stance against any of its members involved in ticket syndication activities. In a press release issued today, the committee reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against unethical practices such as black marketing, the stockpiling of tickets without passengers' names, and ticket syndication.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sabuj Munshi, the owner of Naria Travels and Tours and a member of ATAB, was served a "show cause" notice by a high-powered government investigation committee. The notice demanded an explanation from Munshi regarding allegations of ticket syndication, the booking of unnamed tickets, stockpiling, creating artificial shortages, and selling tickets at inflated prices. Consequently, the ATAB Executive Committee, in its sixth meeting held today, unanimously decided to relieve Munshi of all responsibilities, including his role in the Executive Committee and any standing committees.
The press release indicated that an ongoing investigation is examining the allegations against Munshi. Despite seeking assistance from the ATAB Executive Committee's President, Secretary General, and other members to clear his name, Munshi was informed of the committee's unwavering position against unethical practices, thus ruling out any assistance from them.
The release further accused Munshi of spreading misleading information and propaganda against the ATAB Executive Committee on social media and in the press, driven by anger and frustration. Meanwhile, the ATAB committee is actively working with the government to control ticket prices and dismantle syndicates, reinforcing its commitment to fair practices within the travel industry.
