Dhaka: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has announced that legal action will be pursued against individuals involved in recent student clashes in Dhaka. He made this statement during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy earlier this evening. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asif urged students to avoid provocation and to channel their grievances through college authorities. He highlighted that the conflict at Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College originated from the death of a student who had been suffering from dengue. While there were allegations of negligence against National Medical College regarding this death, it remains unclear how Shaheed Suhrawardy College became entangled in the incident. The adviser described ensuing events as a series of chases and counter-chases among the students of the colleges. He emphasized that steps are currently underway to implement legal measures against those involved in the clashes, with a firm s tance that such incidents will not be tolerated in the future. Despite attempts by law enforcement and college authorities to resolve the issue, clashes could not be averted. Asif clarified that contrary to social media rumors stating fatalities, there have been no reported deaths, although numerous students sustained injuries. The government, he assured, has taken necessary steps to ensure medical treatment for the injured. Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, and Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir were also present during the briefing. Clashes erupted on Monday among students from Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul College, and Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College. In response to inquiries, Asif indicated that there is a significant amount of information regarding the individuals behind the student clashes, and an investigation is underway. Nahid Islam mentioned that there is a deliberate conspiracy aimed at creating instability within th e country, alleging that certain factions, particularly the ousted fascist government, are spreading propaganda to hinder government operations and distract public focus. Efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible for these actions, both domestically and internationally. Nahid called upon political parties and social organizations with revolutionary ideals to play a responsible role in countering these planned conspiracies and propaganda. He revealed that people were being brought into the capital from various regions under false pretenses and noted that police have already apprehended the leader of this group.
