Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul today urged all to remain alert against militancy so that no domestic or foreign enemy can disrupt the prospects and progress of Bangladesh taking advantage of the menace. “If we want to ensure betterment of the country, society, people, our students and children, ourselves; if we want to protect the country from international conspiracy and make Bangladesh free from fascism, we have to protect the country from militancy and fundamentalism at any cost,” he said.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the law adviser said this while addressing a memorial meeting on judges Shaheed Shohel Ahmed and Jagannath Pare, who were killed in a bomb attack carried out by JMB in 2005 in Jhalakathi district. As the chief guest at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) this evening, Asif Nazrul emphasized, “Militancy and extremism are very frightening things. This incident (killing of two judges in a bomb attack carried out by JMB) is a
great example that how it makes people irrational, inhuman, and cruel.”

Militancy in the name of any religion can make people cruel, desperate, and reckless, Dr. Nazrul stated, adding that there are many examples of this. He highlighted that “Our neighboring country has also experienced horrific militancy at different times. We cannot support militancy or extremism under any pretext or at any turn,” reinforcing the need for vigilance.

Noting that there is no friendly country around Bangladesh, Dr. Nazrul mentioned that these countries always try to humiliate Bangladesh. They try to show any incident in an exaggerated way and hatch conspiracy over it, he said, adding that attempts were made to label Bangladesh through exaggerated portrayals of fundamental activities that took place in the past.

With such attempts, Dr. Nazrul explained, the neighboring country had been able to “convince” the international community to establish a controlled government system in Bangladesh and “interfere in our internal issue
s, and become aggressor.” He added, “As a result, we witnessed the fascist rule in the country in the last 15 years.”

The discussion was presided over by Bangladesh Judicial Service Association President Md Amirul Islam, with other notable speakers including Law and Justice Division Secretary Sheikh Abu Taher, Registrar General of Supreme Court Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan, Dhaka District and Sessions Judge Md Helal Uddin, Law and Justice Division Joint Secretary MA Awal, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jakir Hossain, and Acting Director General of JATI Sabbir Fayez.
