Dhaka: Sacrificial waste management activities commenced simultaneously across 75 wards of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain conducted an inspection at the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) near Kalabagan Shishu Park to oversee the swift removal of sacrificial waste.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Local Government Division Secretary Md. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi and Dhaka South City Corporation administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia were also present during the inspection. The adviser emphasized that managing sacrificial waste in the city poses a significant challenge. He warned that failure to remove waste promptly could lead to odour pollution and the spread of diseases and germs.
Asif Mahmud expressed optimism that the city corporation would successfully remove all waste within 12 hours, assuring residents that this year’s Eid celebrations would not be disrupted due to sacrificial waste. Over 10,000 DSCC personnel are actively working at the field level to manage waste removal. In total, 2,079 vehicles, including 207 dump trucks, 44 compactors, 39 container carriers, and 16 pay loaders, are deployed across the 75 wards.
A control room has been established at the Emergency Operations Centre of DSCC to coordinate the sacrificial waste removal activities, with continuous supervision being conducted to ensure efficiency.
