Dhaka: Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to decentralizing sports activities across the country. He made the remarks while speaking at the closing and award ceremony of the National Gold Cup Football Tournament 2024 (Under-17) held at the National Stadium in Dhaka today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser stated that the Ministry of Youth and Sports is actively working to decentralize all sports, including football and cricket, ensuring that opportunities and facilities reach all regions of the country. Asif, who also serves as Adviser for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, highlighted that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is already implementing plans to promote regional cricket, while the Bangladesh Football Federation is expected to follow similar efforts in football development.
He further outlined upcoming initiatives aimed at expanding the number of venues capable of hosting international matches. Asif
expressed optimism about organizing an international football match in Nilphamari and international cricket matches in Rajshahi and Khulna within the year. He emphasized that these steps will bring true decentralization to sports through practical implementation with the cooperation and participation of all stakeholders.
