Lakhmichhari: The army personnel of Lakhmichhari zone today arrested a member of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) from the area and recovered a country-made gun and some other belongings from his possession.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, two army teams of the zone conducted a raid at a house in the East Nabhanga area under Dullatoli union and arrested one Jibon Chakma. They also recovered a country-made gun, three rounds of bullets, a pair of uniforms, two mobile phones, a notebook, and a national identity card from his possession.
The army personnel later handed over Jibon to Lakhmichhari Thana for further action. Police stated that the arrested Jibon Chakma is an active member of the UPDF Prosit group and has been involved in extortion in the area for a long time. He will be produced before the court soon.
A case was filed with Lakhmichhari Thana against Jibon in this connection. Lieutenant Colonel Md Tajul Islam, Commanding Officer of Lakhmichhari zone, emphasized that the Army is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the hilly area. Such operations against terrorists and extortionists would continue in the future, he added.
