Dhaka: Majedul Haque Helal, who allegedly supplied the weapon used in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, today gave a confessional statement before a court in the case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman recorded his statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after police produced the accused before the court and sought to record his confession.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam had earlier placed Majedul on a three-day remand in the case on April 15. The case, which has been under intense scrutiny, took a significant turn with Majedul’s confession, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding Hadi’s murder.
Hadi was shot on December 12, 2025, at around 2:20 pm while travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw in the Bijoy Nagar Box Culvert Road area in the capital. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, shocked the community and led to a swift police investigation.
Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on December 14. Initially registered as an attempted murder case, it was later reclassified as a murder case following Hadi’s death on December 18. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code in the case on December 20, marking a pivotal development in the legal proceedings.
