Ferry movement on the Aricha-Kazirhat route

has resumed after the disruption of 6.30 hours due to dense fog.

“We have forced to suspend the ferry movement on the route around 12.30 am on

Friday due to poor visibility as the dense fog blanketed the river bed of

Jamuna, said Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Bangladesh Inland Water

Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz.

During the period, three ferries– Begum Sufia Kamal, Begum Rokeya and Beer

Shreshtha Ruhul Amin– were stranded at Aricha Ghat and ferry Shah Ali was

anchored in the middle of the river Jamuna with many vehicles, mostly loaded

trucks.

Meanwhile, the ferry movement on the Paturia-Daulatdia route was also

suspended around 2.40 am to 6.30 am today due to dense fog, the Paturia Ghat

sources said.

Two ferries carrying many vehicles like passenger-bound buses remained

stranded at Paturia Ghat, 10 at Daulatdia Ghat and two ferries also remained

stranded in the midstream of the Padma River in Paturia-Daulatdia route.

The movement of all kinds of engine driven boats and launches were also

suspended during the period, the sources said.

The ferry movement on Aricha-Kazirhat and Paturia-Daulatdia became normal at
