Dhaka: Environment, Forests and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced today that Aramco, the national oil company of Saudi Arabia, has committed to supplying LNG to Bangladesh at reduced prices. This development marks a significant shift as Bangladesh currently imports LNG from two other countries.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana disclosed this agreement during a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in the afternoon. She emphasized the importance of this deal in providing Bangladesh with more affordable energy resources, which could potentially ease the country's energy expenses.
In addition to the LNG supply announcement, Rizwana addressed the nation's stance on law and order. She reaffirmed that there is no tolerance for "mob justice" or "moral policing" in Bangladesh, and the interim government is committed to preventing such incidents. "Our stance is very clear...there is no room for mob justice or moral policing in Bangladesh," she stated, emphasizing that the government opposes any form of violence against women.
On the topic of education, Rizwana mentioned a special provision for the children of families affected by the July uprising. She stated that these children would receive certain admission facilities in schools as a one-time measure, which is not related to any quota system. This opportunity will be extended to about 1,200 families.
The press briefing was attended by Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, along with Deputy Press Secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, and Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita Tithi.
