Dhaka: Another 4.3 magnitude earthquake jolted the country this evening following a minor tremor reported this morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the earthquake was recorded at 6:06 pm today by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
A revised bulletin from BMD indicated that the earthquake measured 4.3 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was identified at Narsingdi, which is located 23 kilometers northeast from the BMD Seismic Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka. So far, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage associated with this latest seismic event.
Initially, the BMD had reported in its bulletin that the earthquake’s magnitude was 3.7 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter at the Badda region, located 6 kilometers east from the BMD Seismic Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka. This discrepancy highlights the challenges in accurately measuring seismic activities as they occur.
Earlier today, a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.3 was reported to have jolted the Palash upazila of Narsingdi. Interestingly, the epicenter of this morning’s quake was also in Narsingdi, suggesting a pattern of seismic activity in the region.
This series of tremors follows a more powerful 5.7-magnitude earthquake that rattled the country on Friday, with its epicenter also located in Narsingdi. The recurrence of these earthquakes has raised concerns and brought attention to the seismic activity in this area.
