Dhaka: A delegation from the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) met with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin to outline plans for an international election observation mission for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections. The meeting occurred at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ANFREL delegation was spearheaded by Executive Director Brizza Rosales and included members Tharindu Abeyarathna and Afsana Amey, among others. Afsana Amey described the discussion as “very positive and constructive” and noted that the CEC expressed appreciation for ANFREL’s ongoing efforts to promote democracy in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the delegation emphasized the progress of ANFREL’s current workshop, which aims at bolstering the capacity of local civil society organizations. It was further announced that ANFREL will co-organize a regional experience exchange conference with the Bangladesh Election Commission. This event will convene election commissioners from across Asia to share their expertise and experiences in election management within the context of Bangladesh.
