AL govt always stand by Palestinians: Menon

Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Welfare Ministry Rashed Khan Menon today said the government, led by Prime minister Sheikh Hasina, has been standing by the oppressed Palestinian people.

"Bangabandhu not only recognized Palestine after the independence of Bangladesh, but also expressed his determination to always stand by the oppressed Palestinian people, the government led by Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina, continues to follow it", said Menon.

He was addressing a seminar organized by Al-Quds committee Bangladesh at BMA auditorium in the city today on the occasion of International Al-Quds Day.

Iran's ambassador to Bangladesh Mansour Chavoshi and former election commissioner Brigadier M Sakhawat Hossain addressed the program as special guests, with President of Al-Quds committee Bangladesh also chairman of Dhaka University philosophy department Dr Shah Kawthar Mustafa Abululayee in the chair.

Menon said, "Al-Quds Day is a milestone for every nation that is involved in the struggle to protect national rights. Al-Quds involves not only religious feelings, but also the questions of justice and rights". Those who blocked the Holy Land including Masjid al-Aqsa are not only anti-Islam, but also anti-humanity, he added.

Supreme Court senior lawyer AKM Badruddoza, Dr AKM Saiful Islam Khan of DU Persian Language and Literature Department and DU central mosque Khatib Dr. Syed Muhammad Emdad Uddin also addressed the seminar, among others.

Earlier, Al-Quds committee Bangladesh formed a human chain at 3:00 pm in front of Jatiya Ppress Club.
