Turag: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today accused the Awami League (AL) of dismantling constitutional institutions over its 15-year rule, alleging a pattern of misrule. Fakhrul made these remarks while addressing the formal inauguration of the Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP membership renewal programme at Ranabhola in Turag.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul suggested that the national election might be rescheduled from April to February following a meeting between Chief Adviser Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus and BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. He noted that this development has unsettled a particular party, hinting at their concern over potential election outcomes.
Fakhrul emphasized BNP’s commitment to addressing unemployment, promising that if the party returns to power, it will prioritize creating jobs for one crore unemployed individuals, with a focus on empowering young people. He criticized the current government for harboring professional extortionists, pledging that such elements would find no place within BNP ranks.
Reflecting on historical successes, Fakhrul recalled the 1991 elections, where despite uncertainties, BNP’s favorable image enabled it to secure a majority and form a government. The event was chaired by Turag Thana BNP Acting Convener Harun-or-Rashid Khokan, with speeches from Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Md. Aminul Haque and Member Secretary Md. Mostafa Zaman, among others.
