Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) stated today that the cohorts of the fallen Awami League (AL) are attempting to destabilize the country. However, law enforcement has been directed to enhance their patrolling efforts nationwide to ensure that terrorists cannot maintain a presence.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Affairs Adviser made these comments during an emergency press conference regarding the country’s law and order situation at his Baridhara DOHS residence at approximately 3 am today. He indicated that AL allies are utilizing significant funds taken out of the country to create instability.
He emphasized that the government will not allow the country to become unstable under any circumstances, pledging that preventative measures will be taken at all costs. He further noted that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to bolster patrol activities starting tomorrow to prevent any criminal activity.
The adviser warned that if law enforcement fails to implement these instructions, they will face consequences. He expressed confidence that the law and order situation would improve consistently without any likelihood of deterioration.
Addressing questions about ongoing criminal activities despite arrests, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury confirmed that arrests are being made, citing the recent arrest of three individuals involved in a robbery on a bus in Savar. He assured that operations against criminals are active and will persist.
When asked about demands for his resignation from a protest rally at Dhaka University, Jahangir stated that the students desire improved law and order. He asserted that if he could address the issues prompting the resignation demands, there would be no reason for him to step down. He reiterated his commitment to enhancing the law and order situation.
Regarding concerns about the safety of women students, particularly in the context of crimes against women, the Home Adviser reassured that the authorities are vigilant and dedicated to ensuring their safety. He highlighted the ongoing nationwide crackdown, ‘Operation Devil Hunt,’ aimed at making it impossible for terrorists to operate freely.
In response to concerns about rising criminal activities involving motorbikes, the Home Adviser instructed law enforcement to enforce a previous order that restricts more than two helmeted individuals from riding on a motorbike to curb such crimes.
