Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam and LGRD Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain have tendered their resignation letters to the Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, at the State Guest House Jamuna. The announcement was made by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, during a briefing outside Jamuna.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the resignations of the two advisers, who played a prominent role in the 2024 student-people July Uprising, will be effective following the announcement of the general election schedule by the Election Commission (EC). The Chief Election Commissioner is set to announce the schedule at 6pm tomorrow.

Upon receiving their resignation letters, Prof Yunus commended both advisers for their contributions to the uprising and expressed hope for their continued involvement in the country’s democratic transition and development. He acknowledged the historic significance of the day and praised their achievements during their tenure.

Prof Yunus encouraged the advisers to leverage their governmental experience for the nation’s welfare in the future. When questioned about their participation in the upcoming weekly Council of Advisers meeting, Shafiqul Alam indicated that they might attend if the meeting occurs before the election schedule announcement.

Assurances were given regarding the timely conduct of the general elections, anticipated in the first half of February, with the government and EC actively preparing for the event.
