Dhaka: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid today emphasized that Bangladesh’s independence was achieved through an armed struggle. “The independence is the source of our inspiration and our pride,” he stated while addressing a programme of ‘Khatome Quran, discussion and milad mahfil’ at the south plaza of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, attending as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh (IFB) organized the event to commemorate the great Independence and National Day. Dr Khalid highlighted that Bangladesh emerged as a nation through the armed struggle of 1971, which also bestowed an independent flag, land, and state upon its people. He urged everyone to cast aside narrow-mindedness to foster national development and called on stakeholders to repudiate those involved in asset misappropriation and money laundering abroad.
Dr Khalid paid tribute to the valiant freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives or were injured in the War of Liberation in 1971, praying for the salvation of the departed souls of the martyred heroes. The event was presided over by IFB Director General Abdus Salam Khan and featured addresses by Dr Harunur Rashid, Director of the Din-e-Dawat and Culture Department of the foundation.
The programme concluded with special prayers and Doa seeking the development and prosperity of Bangladesh. Other notable attendees included Md Abdul Hamid Khan, Director of Finance and Accounts of the foundation, Md Mohiuddin, Director-Coordination, Md Bazlur Rashid, Director of Planning, and Muhammad Mohibullahil Baki, Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
