Ad-hoc Bar Council Formed with Attorney General as Chairman

Dhaka: The government has established the Ad-hoc Bar Council, with the Attorney General of Bangladesh serving as its Chairman in an ex-officio capacity. This council is set to regulate the activities of lawyers across the country.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Ad-hoc Bar Council will be operational for one year, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. This development was announced through a notification issued by the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry. The council has been established under the authority granted by Article-4 of The Bangladesh Legal Practitioner’s and Bar Council Order, 1972.



The members of the newly formed Ad-hoc committee include several distinguished Senior Supreme Court lawyers such as Advocate Zainul Abedin, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Advocate Abdullah Al-Mamun, Barrister A.M. Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Advocate Shah Md. Khasruzzaman, Advocate Md. Nazrul Islam Khan, and Advocate Md. Abdul Matin.



Additionally, representatives from local bar associations have been appointed as members of the council. These include Advocate Md. Mohsin Miah from Dhaka Bar Association, Advocate ASM Badrul Anwar from Chittagong District Bar Association, Advocate A.T.M. Foyaz Uddin from Sylhet District Bar Association, Advocate Kazi Enayet Hossain Bachchu from Barishal District Bar Association, Advocate Md. Mainul Ahsan from Rajshahi District Bar Association, and Advocate Md. Shafiqul Islam from Bogura District Bar Association.
