Chattogram: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today arrested a fugitive accused in the Ripu Akhtar murder case from Banshkhali upazila. The arrested individual, Md. Muktar Hossain, 40, is the son of late Azam Ullah and hails from North Jaldi village of Banshkhali.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ripu Akhtar, the wife of Nur Mohammad from Lashkarpara area of Banshkhali Municipality, was related to the accused. A property dispute existed between the victim's father's family and the accused, which escalated tensions. Two days prior to the incident, Ripu had visited her father's home, a visit that would precede the tragic events.
On October 23, Md. Muktar Hossain verbally abused Ripu while she was in her house courtyard. Upon her objection, the situation turned violent as she was assaulted with sticks, iron rods, and bricks, resulting in critical injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Ripu was declared dead by the attending doctor.
The incident prompted Nur Mohammad to file a murder case at Banshkhali Police Station. Following the arrest, the accused was handed over to Banshkhali Police Station for further investigation.
