Rangpur: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the main accused in a gang rape case of Saidpur upazila in Nilphamari district from the Dhakaiyatari area under Tajhat police station of Rangpur city on Wednesday. The detainee was identified as Md Samir Hossain, 20, son of Md Abdur Rahim, a resident of the Bansbari Hanifmour area under Saidpur police station of Nilphamari district, said a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accused developed a relationship with the victim from the same area and promised to marry her. On July 29, 2025, at 7 pm, the accused forcibly raped the victim. Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a rape case at the Saidpur police station of Nilphamari district on August 9, 2025.
On a tip-off, a joint team of the RAB-13’s Crime Prevention Company-2 from Nilphamari camp and Crime Prevention Specialised Company from Rangpur conducted a raid and arrested Md Samir Hossain from the Dhakaiyatari area of Rangpur city. The arrested was handed over to Saidpur p
olice station in Nilphamari for further legal action.
