Accused Arrested for Killing Elderly Man in Rangpur

Rangpur: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 has arrested the main accused in the case of killing an old man and tying his body to an electric wire in Gangachara model police station from the Kutirghat area in the district. The arrested accused in the sensational murder case is Md Tayeb Ali, 36, son of late Chatku Mia of village Dakshin Betgari Shahpara under Gangachara model police station of Rangpur district, said a press release this evening.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the release stated that Md Tayeb Ali and his co-accused had a sequel, argument, and push-pull with the victim Saju Mia about six months ago regarding financial transactions. Due to this, the accused and his co-conspirators called the victim through a mobile phone, took him to an unknown place, and killed him in a pre-planned manner. They then tied the victim's body to an electric wire to divert the cause of death at 07.30 pm on May 17, 2025.

The victim's son learned from the police station on May 18, 2025, at 03.00 pm, that his father Saju Mia's body was found at a nearby place under Kaliganj police station of Lalmonirhat district. Subsequently, the victim's son filed a murder case at Gangachara model police station on August 5, 2025, regarding the incident.

Based on secret information, a smart team of RAB-13's Rangpur Sadar Company arrested Md Tayeb Ali from the Kutirghat area on the banks of the Ghagot River under Gangachara model police station in Rangpur at 6:30 pm on Tuesday. The accused has been handed over to Gangachara model police station in Rangpur for legal action.
