Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has formally requested the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to facilitate the issuance of an Interpol red notice for the arrest of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy. The request aims to secure their arrest in connection with a plot scam case.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC conveyed this request through a letter delivered today, as confirmed by ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam. The letter, signed by ACC Assistant Director and Investigating Officer Afnan Jannat Keya, noted that a court has already issued an arrest warrant for Sheikh Hasina and her son. The warrant is a result of ongoing investigations that revealed Sheikh Hasina has left the country, while her son has been residing abroad for an extended period.
To ensure justice is served, the court has directed authorities to ascertain their whereabouts, facilitate their return to Bangladesh, and present them before the court. Accompanying the ACC's letter to the IGP were crucial documents, including a copy of the court order, the arrest warrant, the First Information Report (FIR), the charge sheet, and a formal application to Interpol on a prescribed form requesting the red notice issuance.
