Dhaka: The ACC today filed two separate cases against the former chairman of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA), Dr M Mosharaf Hossain, and his wife, Jannatul Mawa, for acquiring wealth beyond their known sources of income. Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Md Akhter Hossain, disclosed the information to journalists during a regular media briefing here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the former chairman of IDRA, Dr Mosharaf, submitted a wealth statement on July 25, 2022, reporting a total worth of about Taka 4,52,97,677. However, he reportedly suppressed family expenses amounting to Taka 1,18,03,800. During verification, the ACC discovered his actual wealth to be approximately Taka 5,71,01,477, a figure significantly higher than his declared wealth of Taka 4,34,48,474. The discrepancy indicated that Dr Mosharaf possessed extra wealth worth about Taka 1,36,53,003, which was beyond his known sources of income.
Furthermore, the ACC’s investigation into Jannatul Mawa’s finances revealed her total wealth to be around Taka 13,60,88,007, excluding family expenses of Taka 27,85,922. Her legal income was found to be about Taka 49,75,556, leaving a substantial amount of Taka 13,38,98,373 unexplained and beyond her known sources of income.
