Bogura: A court today framed charges against former Acting Director General of Rural Development Academy (RDA) M A Matin and his wife, Sabina Afroze, in connection with a case involving alleged accumulation of wealth beyond their known sources of income.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Judge Ayez Uddin of the Bogura District Special Judge's Court issued the order during a session at which both accused were present. The charges stem from a case filed under the Anti-Corruption Act, following an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Earlier this year, on January 26, Assistant Director of the ACC Bogura office, Md Zahidul Islam, submitted a charge sheet against the couple to the Senior Special Judge's Court in Bogura. ACC Public Prosecutor Mahbuba Khatun Sukhi confirmed that the charges have been officially framed, with Matin being charged under Section 26(2) of the law, while his wife faces charges under Sections 26(2) and 27(1).
The ACC's investigation revealed that Matin failed to disclose information about immovable assets valued at TK 2,998,110 in his wealth statement. Furthermore, it was found that he provided misleading information and aided his wife in acquiring assets worth TK 7,309,495 beyond legitimate income sources. These allegations suggest misuse of power during Matin's tenure at the Bogura Rural Development Academy to amass illicit wealth in his wife's name.
The charges come after Md Zahidul Islam filed the case on February 6, 2025, under which the court has now proceeded with the charges. The trial will soon commence to further examine the allegations and determine the culpability of the accused.
